The Origin:

The Ancient Geological Legacy of the Palakkad Gap

A Landscape Older Than the Himalayas

The Palakkad Gap is one of the most remarkable geological features of the Indian peninsula, the largest and most prominent break in the Western Ghats, forming a natural, low-elevation passage between the Nilgiri Hills and the Anaimalai–Palani hill systems. The rocks associated with the Palghat–Cauvery Shear Zone belong to the ancient Precambrian crust of southern India, preserving evidence of geological processes that occurred long before the Himalayas formed.

While the Himalayas rose about 50 million years ago through the collision of the Indian and Eurasian plates, southern India’s crystalline rocks represent some of Earth’s oldest continental fragments, with histories dating back more than 2 billion years.

The Gap has also served as a climatic corridor influencing rainfall, a biological passage for flora and fauna, a migration route connecting Tamil Nadu and Kerala, and a cultural bridge across the Ghats.

Thus, the Palakkad Gap reminds us that the landscapes we inhabit are chapters in a story far older than humanity, a story written over billions of years in stone, soil, water, and life.

Most skincare works
on the surface.

NC is designed to care beyond the outermost layer, supporting the skin's renewal, resilience, and natural radiance.

The visible begins in the invisible.

Stratum Corneum

The barrier layer

The outermost barrier of your skin — 15-20 layers of dead keratinocytes that protect everything beneath. Most skincare never penetrates beyond this. NC's formulation is designed to work here and then travel further.

The New Age Alchemist

Subramanian Raju, or Subbu, is a molecular scientist, a third-generation botanical formulator, and the founder of Nature’s Chemistry. Trained in biosciences at University College London, he carries both a world-class scientific education and an inherited fluency in luxury botanical formulation, a craft his family has practised across generations for discerning markets worldwide.

Nature’s Chemistry began not with a plan, but with an epiphany. Midway through his time at UCL, the science Subbu was studying began to illuminate something he had known instinctively since childhood. He grew up observing Athachi Farms,...

botanical intelligence

Some knowledge comes beyond a lab. It comes from a gap in the mountains, a monsoon wind, and generations who learned to listen to both. Seasonally, from our formulation team.
